Haircut: Before & After.

June 29, 2010

Dun dun dun, it’s here. I’m a little nervous showing everyone all at once (so far, only S & our moms have seen it), but here goes:

I’m sorry for the weird composition — S was trying to be a little too artsy with these shots.

Short, right?!

Observations in the last 24 hours:

1. My hair is kind of wavy in the back and will flip out the wrong way if I don’t blow dry it in. I never had to deal with it when I had long hair because the weight of my hair pulled it down straight.
2. It takes me about 10 minutes less to get ready (less shampoo time, less combing time, less blow dry time).
3. I have NO split ends & NO tangles — hooray! (This is a first in a very very long time.)
4. I have always slept with a ponytail for as long as I can remember — I couldn’t stand sleeping with it down. Now I sleep with it down & it bothers me no more. :]
5. I instinctively pull my hair back when I brush my teeth, lean over something, etc. It feels strange to just have to tuck it behind my ears now.
6. I keep trying to pull out my hair from underneath a shirt or sweater whenever I put it on, only to find that my hair is already out.
7. I never liked tying my hair half up-half down — I felt that it made me look like a little girl. Now it doesn’t look so childish.
8. Same with wearing headbands, hairbands, etc. Hello big flowers & fabric headbands!

Mostly, I’m just thankful I didn’t cry when I got it cut. I have a history of crying at the salon (I’ve had a lot of bad haircuts), but I think my hair stylist is quickly ridding me of all my hair fears.

The best of five attempts. We’re no good at taking pictures in the mirror.

Okay, your turn. Be honest. What do you think???

Your hair looks too cute!! It compliments your face really well actually. Not that you look old or anything but the cut does make you look younger, in a good way. =)

    The last photo is sweeeet!

You really make me want to cut mines now, but I’m sure I’m not brave enough.

  28. June 29, 2010 10:03 am

awww i think it is VERY cute! suits you well! you look soo happy in this last pic too hehe!!

  37. June 29, 2010 3:09 pm

without thinking, the first thought that came to mind: SO CUTE!

with further thought: it gives you a different look. long hair had more of a swept, composed look (if that makes any sense at all). short hair is spunky-stylish and free. can’t wait to see how you fun it up with accessories!

and that last photo makes me want to squeeze-hug ya :]

You are so frickin’ cute! Oh my gosh! I love the cut, especially the way it falls in the back. I have a similar cut and found that using a straightener on the back is super quick and easy for those flippy ends.

  40. June 29, 2010 5:21 pm

It fits you perfectly. I adore it.

  41. June 29, 2010 7:30 pm

I have the same issue with my hair turning out the wrong way if I don’t blow dry it too. I got my hair cut to the same length as yours a month ago. I love the fresh feeling when you cut off your long hair! It looks fresh and nice on you.

  65. July 22, 2010 6:20 am

Stoooop it! You look so cute! This makes me want to cut my hair again and I promised my family and friends I wouldn’t, because it is inevitable that I will want it long again immediately. Too many waves and flips going on back there.

    Bring on the headbands!

I think you look way more mature with the new haircut. When I first saw the before pic’s I thought, ‘I didn’t know she had a daughter’. I have long hair as well and look young, your post has inspired me to consider cutting my hair to look more my age.

What’s wrong with looking younger?? Billions worth of products are spent every year to help women look younger, yet the hair is cut to make you look *older*? OK, I’m a dude; I just don’t get it. The best beauty tip that I could give women, esp those over 35, is to reject the short haircuts.

  69. August 30, 2010 10:09 am

cathie, i am CRAZY about it. wow. you are so darling! it looks fantastic!
