Weekend Three.

April 6, 2010

Oh man. It’s probably more like weekend ten, but for your sake (and mine) we’ll simplify it to three.

One. We spent the bulk of the weekend visiting my sister-in-law, her husband & her newborn baby. Born last Wednesday, he is really the most precious little bundle of joy we’ve ever set eyes on. Our very first nephew, the first grandchild in the family.

On Saturday all of the siblings (plus spouses) got together at their place to have lunch & ooh-and-ahh over the little guy. My oldest sister-in-law prepared open-faced sandwiches for us with homemade egg salad, as well as fresh avocados, tomatoes, aged white cheddar, and olive oil. Yum.

Gosh he melts my heart.

Two. Celebrated my friend’s son’s first birthday party. In Korean tradition, this is a huge deal — kind of like a mini-wedding. They played a traditional game where they placed a number of symbolic objects in front of him (a pencil to represent intelligence, a paintbrush for artistic talent, a guitar for musical talent, a ball for athleticism, etc. etc.), and he had to choose one that would “foretell” his future. We got to guess which one he would choose — I chose the ball, S chose the guitar. Guess which one he chose? The ball. :]

Three. S & I caught up with some friends over dinner and dessert. We have been so busy these days that it’s a rare occurrence to just sit & eat with friends, so it was a real treat for us. My friend’s also an excellent baker. I think it has something to do with the fact that she grew up in the Midwest — they’ve got extra hospitality & homemaking skills that we California people just don’t have.

Homemade chocolate souffle with strawberry ice cream. And I quote: this is one of the easiest desserts — I make it when I’m too lazy to think of something else. Her husband is a lucky man.

Absolutely loved spending time with people we love this weekend. And eating all sorts of yummy food haha. Hope your weekend was just as lovely!

What three things did you do this weekend?

He’s so precious! Also, your family is so culinary-cool. The open-faced sandwiches look so good with all the toppings… that’s a great get-together idea. And the calligraphy? Sigh. So many awesome things in your weekend. So glad I found your blog!
